Did I Tell You About the Time I Was Groped by a Horse? 🐴💋

Charleston, South Carolina. A city rich with cobblestone charm, drool-worthy food, pastel homes that look like the real-life version of a dessert tray… and apparently, horses who don’t believe in personal space.

Let’s back up.

I was minding my own business, living my best travel life on a beautiful carriage tour through the historic streets of Charleston. The guide was giving us all the juicy colonial tea—duels, drama, and ghost stories (because, yes, it’s Charleston). The breeze was perfect. My hair was giving what it needed to give. My sunscreen game? On point thanks to JetSet Shade—my oversized sun hat from TheCleanVoyager.com.

After the ride, the tour guide offered a chance to meet the real MVP of the tour: the horse. His name was Toby. Big. Brown. Majestic. Smelled faintly of hard work and hay.

So of course I posed for a cute picture.

Toby, however, had other plans.

One minute I’m cheesin’ for the ‘Gram, and the next minute I feel hot breath in my ear, a giant wet tongue, and an unsolicited snuggle. Y’all—Toby tried to kiss me. Fully nuzzled me like we had history.

I was groped. By a horse. In front of strangers. I can’t even get a text back, but this Clydesdale wanted to make me his Southern Belle. 😩

After recovering from my hoofed harassment, I continued exploring Charleston—and let me tell you, this city did not disappoint (Toby’s enthusiasm aside).

Things to Do in Charleston, SC (Besides Getting Kissed by a Horse):

  • Stroll down Rainbow Row – Pastel-colored historic homes that look like they were painted with gelato.
  • Shop at Charleston City Market – Grab handmade goods, Gullah sweetgrass baskets, and probably some earrings you don’t need but definitely deserve.
  • Explore Boone Hall Plantation – Where the oak trees have more drama than your group chat.
  • Hit up King Street – For shopping, cocktails, and looking mysterious while pretending you’re in a Nicholas Sparks movie.
  • Waterfront Park & Pineapple Fountain – Great for photos. Great for reflecting on your life decisions, like letting a horse whisper sweet nothings in your ear.
  • Catch a sunset cruise – A romantic way to see Charleston, whether you’re boo’d up or just in love with yourself (as you should be).
  • Eat, obviously – Shrimp & grits, she-crab soup, fried green tomatoes, and biscuits that made me want to apologize to every carb I’ve ever judged.

The Takeaway

Charleston is charm, cuisine, and culture wrapped in a sweet Southern bow—and if you’re lucky, a little equestrian affection.
